Automotive Service Technician Job Description

The Core Objective of the Automotive Technician is to support the fixed operations initiatives of the Company of Cars team and its’ customers. The chosen applicant will possess strong leadership skills, and the ability to communicate well with a team. An ability to develop long term strategic goals and an action plan with measurable results is key. Accountability for the work and progress of the technician that reports to the service manager directly will also be a factor. Experience with luxury and European brands is a must. 


The Automotive Service Technician’s ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain, current inventory, previously sold inventory, is key to our organization’s ongoing success. Technicians will leverage the ability of all team members to provide stellar customer service to current clients and maintain relationships with past clients and referral sources. Attention to detail along with highly personalized service will continue to grow awareness of Company of Cars’ unique differentiators in the market.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Review work orders and discuss work with supervisor
  • Inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drivetrain, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrication and tune ups
  • Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
  • Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
  • Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance
  • Complete reports to record problems and work performed


Job Qualifications: 

  • Licensed Automotive Technician with Red Seal Certification or in your 3rd year
  • At least 3 years' experience as an Automotive Service Technician
  • Must have your own tools
  • Experience with luxury and European brands required
  • Client Focused, Reliable and Dependable, Team Player and Accurate
  • A valid driver’s license (and access to a vehicle when needed)
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication in English required
  • Second language is an asset

  • Highly organized with the ability to get on task quickly and stay focused.
  • Excellent time management skills; the capacity to work unsupervised as well as be a team member
  • Must be able to think on their feet and make decisions that support customer service excellence.
  • Technology and systems savvy. Able to work with other team members to use technology and systems to help them work more effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A  passion for great customer service. Able to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of team members and clients to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Self-motivated. Work well independently and take charge of moving things forward without needing to be given direction on every detail.

Working Conditions:

The Automotive Service Technician will work at our Service department at our main store on 344 W 7th Ave, Vancouver, BC. Hours of work are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with adjustments depending on the workload.
